Management of the Bawku Senior High School in the Bawku Municipality has named a students’ dormitory after Commissioner of Police (retired) Patrick Akolgo in honour of the retired senior police officer.

The dormitory, christened COP (retired) Akolgo House, was outdoored on Friday, August 2, 2024 during the school’s 60th anniversary celebration and the 2024 Bawku SHS Old Students Association (BOSA) Home Coming event.

The retired police officer had his secondary education at the school and later, returned to teach there.

Although he subsequently left to join the police service, COP Akolgo continued to make worthy contributions to the development of the institution.

The naming of the dormitory after him was, therefore, in recognition of his unrelenting support towards the progress of the school.

At a brief ceremony on Friday to unveil the new name of the dormitory, outgoing president of BOSA said most people get such recognition postmortem. But the retired officer’s distinguished role in the school, he noted, set him apart thus, earning him the honour while he is still alive.

“You know it’s a great responsibility to name a house after you when you’re still living. Most of the people they honour them postmortemly. But he is here; young and kicking and has been honoured in his name. It’s because of his immerse contributions toward our alma mater,”  the BOSA president said.

Expressing appreciation for the honour done him, COP Patrick Akolgo said the recognition is an encouragement to him to do more for the institution.

“All what I can say is that I thank God for everybody’s life including my own life. And I will keep on praying that God should grant us the opportunity to even do better. Because this is not only an inspiration but it is also encouragement for us to do more.”
