Flag-bearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) John Dramani Mahama has assured Ghanaians of his readiness to complete all community day senior high school started during his tenure as president that he said have now been abandoned by the current government.
The completion of the community day schools widely known as E-blocks will help in ending the double track system currently running in some senior high schools.
He further pledged to improve the Free Senior High School Policy to allow for not only access to secondary education but also quality education.
With the desire to improve access to quality secondary education, he stated that a Mahama administration will return the purchasing of various consumables to the heads of second circle institution.
Addressing a rally at the Binduri Community Day Senior High School, one of the E-blocks that were successful completed and operationalized, Mr. Mahama assured Ghanaians of his strong conviction to improving the Free Senior High School Policy and secondary education.
“I am happy to be at the Binduri SHS, this E-block which is serving the people of Binduri. There are several of these blocks we were building around the country. We awarded 50 first, then another 23 and another 50. Unfortunately, we did not complete several of them before we left office. You are the lucky ones. There are many places in Ghana that where the block has been roofed, almost 80% complete and this government has abandoned it and it has been over grown by weeds and lizards and snakes are the ones studying in the E-blocks.” He stated.
He added that “we are going to invest and complete the abandoned E-blocks and we are going to expand the facilities in the existing secondary schools. We are doing this so that we can stop the double track system as quickly as possible. We cannot afford the situation where are children come home and stay for three months, four months before they go back to school. All our children must be able to go to school at the same time and vacate at same time”.
