Security analyst Adam Bona has registered his displeasure at President’s Nana Akufo Addo’s deafening silence on the Western Togoland secessionists attack in the Volta region.
In the assertion of the security expert, the National Security Minister and Attorney General have demonstrated gross negligence in the matter of the secession and should have been dismissed by the President.
Ghana, on Friday morning was hit with attacks by a group of persons seeking to breakaway the Volta region and some parts of the country, claiming to want to declare independence of Western Togoland.
Following the attempted takeover of state installations and brutality of police officers, government has come under heavy criticism over its handling of the matter.
Speaking in a radio interview monitored by dreamzfmonline.com, Adam Bona chastised president Nana Addo for failing to address the nation and dismissing some of his appointees in real time.
“The President could have done better. In other jurisdictions, the President would have addressed the nation by now. The Right Honorable Speaker of Parliament would call for a quick recall of parliament under the ticket of emergency and call the AG to come and explain why she said the case involving Papavi and his team; she doesn’t want to continue. Maybe the AG has some information,” he said.
He argued that the secessionists are becoming emboldened in the face of government’s lackadaisical approach to the issue.
“It is not everything we put out there but I am horrified to hear that Hon. Kojo Oppong Nkrumah came out to say that they actually prevented a carnage [that] they prevented distraction in that part of town. I ask myself is this one of the persons we pay? In security, you have to always be proactive and not reactive,” he added.
He charged President Nana Addo to sack the Volta Regional Minister, the National Security Minister and the Attorney General and restructure the national security architecture with immediate effect.
Mr. Bona intimated that Ghanaians have not demonstrated sufficient anger over the matter of the secession adding that the situation is enough to judge the competence of leadership of the country.
