Deputy Communications Director of the New Patriotic Party in the Upper East Region, Andrew Atariwini believes the torching of the party’s vehicle by unknown assailants in the Binduri Constituency is an attempt to scare the party and its supporters.
According to him, the NPP government and its parliamentary candidate’s exceptional performance in the constituency has given the party an edge in the area, dimming their opponents’ hope of winning the seat.
He said, as a result, they have resorted to violent acts to put fear in the party and its supporters.
Atariwine, however, stated that the NPP will not be intimidated by such acts and called on the security agencies to bring the perpetrators to book.
“I know that this is to put a scare in the NPP party but we are ever resolved. We have never been charged and resolved than we are today. The people will judge. It’s not in someone’s place to go burning cars or attacking and think that that would put a scare on us. It won’t work,” he stated.
A Nissan Pickup vehicle, belonging to the NPP in Binduri was Monday, July 22, 2024, set ablaze at the residence of the Constituency Chairman, Samuel Ayaago.
The assailants, numbering 3 and said to have been masked, reportedly opened gunfire upon arriving at the residence on two motorbikes before pouring liquid suspected to be petrol on the vehicle and subsequently, set it ablaze.
The vehicle was said to have been used for the party’s campaign activities in the area.
Member of Parliament for the constituency and Deputy Minister for Local Government, Abdulai Abanga has since condemned the incident.
