A development economics lecturer at the University for Development Studies (UDS), Prof. Michael Adongo Ayamga has cautioned the National Democratic Congress (NDC) against conduct he said could rob the party of its chance of winning the upcoming elections.

According to the development economics lecturer,  complacency is setting in the party with leadership behaving in ways that is leaving an important section of the voter population feeling alienated.

This, he observed, could cost the NDC in the 2024 presidential and parliamentary elections.

“There are some things that they (NDC) can do that can make them lose it. And they are doing some of them and I think they ought to  be very careful. They are behaving as if they are already in power and they have begun alienating some people,” he stated.

The senior lecturer at UDS said this while reacting to research and data firm, Fitch Solutions’ projection of victory for the NDC.

The firm based in London in the United Kingdom disclosed that 54 percent of Ghanaians surveyed tipped John Dramani Mahama of the NDC to win the elections.

Prof. Adongo Ayamga believes the NDC’s flagbearer stands the chance of winning more than the 54 percent prediction by Fitch Solutions.

But for the party to realize this, he said it must focus its campaign on the economic issues and demonstrate that it has the welfare of the people at heart.

“Anytime people are not talking about the economy, it is making the NPP to have hope. And that’s why I think they need to get their messaging right and to stay on point,” he advised.
