The former Member of Parliament for Binduri Constituency, Dr. Robert Kuganab-lem, has pointed accusatory fingers at the District Chief Executive, Ayinga Abagre Yakubu, for his crushing defeat in the 2020 general elections.
According to him, the DCE’s steadfast refusal to release his share of the common fund severely hindered his ability to address the pressing needs and concerns of his constituents, ultimately culminating in his downfall.
Dr. Kuganab-lem alleges that the DCE’s intentional non-cooperation and antagonism towards him led to the withholding of funds and the frustration of his efforts to serve the people, while also brazenly taking credit for projects he had tirelessly lobbied for, thereby undermining his reputation and chances of re-election.
This alleged treachery, Dr. Kuganab-lem believes, created a clear pathway for the then Parliamentary Candidate of the New Patriotic Party, Abdulai Abanga, to emerge victorious.
“I can say that the DCE was the architect for me losing the elections. He played a huge role and the current MP, Abanga knows that without the DCE he couldn’t have beaten me in an election,” he said.
Speaking on Dreamz Breakfast today program, the former MP accounted for a vivid picture of a tense and hostile relationship that existed between the two officials, with the DCE seemingly determined to unseat him.
“When you have such a hostile DCE, nothing will work for you”.
Dr. Kuganab-lem Chronicled instances where he was frustrated by the DCE, Mr. Yakubu, including the latter’s persistent refusal to sign documents for the release of funds meant for developmental projects in the constituency.
“He was so uncooperative in such a manner that he almost derailed all what I wanted to do. For example, I want to do a borehole here, I want to do this there, he won’t sign for my portion of the district assembly common fund and before you realized, he has gone to use the common fund to do it and then say that it is the then NPP candidate who did it,” he stated.
