A total of 21,214 candidates from the 15 municipalities and districts in the Upper East Region are sitting the Basic Education Certificate Examination, (BECE).
Out of this figure, 9,591 are females with 8065 being males
The examination is taking place at 81 centres across the region.
The Bolgatanga Municipality has the highest number of candidates with 2,930 followed by Bongo District with 2,022. The district with the least candidates is Bolga East District with 683 candidates.
Across the country, 569,095 made up of 282,648 males and 286,447 females from 19, 506 schools are expected to report to 2,123 centres to take part in the exercise.
The West African Examination Council, while indicating that it has made arrangements to make the examination accessible to students with special needs, cautioned candidates and other stakeholders against engaging in examination malpractices.
It said it has discovered new strategies candidates deploy to compromise the examination process, warning that such actions are “punishable offense”.
The Ghana Education Service (GES), in a statement wishing the candidates well, said “parents, candidates and the general public are informed that the school selection process will commence after the BECE”.
It added, “details of the selection process will be communicated in due course”.
