The Apuwongo community in the Bongo District of the Upper East Region has been plunged into crisis mode once more, after the main road connecting them to the district and regional capital was washed away by torrential rains yesterday.
This devastating incident occurs just days after community members mobilized resources to fix the road themselves, without support from duty bearers.
The same portion of the road that was previously washed away has been destroyed again, leaving the community cut off from essential services and vehicular movement.
The situation is dire, with residents struggling to access healthcare, education, and markets.
Despite the community’s efforts to fix the road themselves, their cries for help have fallen on deaf ears.
The Assembly Member for the area, Roger Abugre, had officially written to Rita Atanga, the District Chief Executive, appealing for immediate attention and assistance to fix the road. However, no action has been taken to rescue the situation, leaving the community feeling abandoned and frustrated.
“We are tired of being neglected. We fixed the road ourselves, but it’s like we’re not even being considered. We need a permanent solution to this problem, not just a temporary fix,” a frustrated resident told Dreamz News.
The community is appealing to the authorities to take immediate action to address the issue once and for all.
They are calling for a culvert to be built to prevent the road from being washed away by rains. The lack of response from the district authorities has left the community feeling disillusioned and marginalized.
“This is not the first time we have experienced this issue, and it seems like we are not a priority for the district authorities. We have written to the District Chief Executive, but she has since not given any positive response to our concerns. We continue to plead with her to take immediate action to address this issue and prevent further damage to the road and the community,” said Roger Abugre, the Assembly Member.
