Upper East Regional Communication Officer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Abdallah Jonathan Salifu has questioned former Chief Director of the Ministry of Energy, Dr. Lawrence Apalse on his contribution to his home region during his tenure at the ministry.

Dr. Apalse, who hails from the Upper East Region, expressed shock that none of the Members of Parliament from the region took advantage of his presence at the ministry in the last 4 years to lobby for development for their areas.

Speaking to Dreamz News at the commissioning of a footbridge constructed in his honour by GNPC, Dr. Apalse said while MPs from other regions were frequenting his office to ask for developmental projects for their areas, no MP from his home region approached his outfit to make such a request.

He stated he had expected that the MPs would seize the opportunity to lobby for projects from the ministry to complement what he had secured for the region.

They, however, failed to do so, letting the opportunity the region was presented with slip away.

But reacting to this in an interview on Breakfast News, Abdallah Jonathan questioned Dr. Apalse’s contribution to the development of the region during the period he held the Chief Director position.

“If he says no MP came to him, he is also from this region, what did he bring to the region?” He questioned.

He claimed that aside from a nationwide streetlighting project, which the region benefitted, no monumental project was initiated in the region under Dr. Apalse’s tenure as Chief Director of the Energy Ministry.

“I know the project he came to meet in Bongo, that’s the rural electrification SHEP 5 was something that was initiated by his predecessor Prof. Kabza’a and after the SHEP 5, we’ve never had any rural electrification project initiated by this government neither to talk about it being spearheaded by him”.
