Though they have qualified for the National Championship, many social media users have expressed disappointment with the performance of Bolgatanga Senior High School (BIG BOSS) at the Upper East Regional qualifiers of the 2024 National Science and Maths Quiz (NMSQ).
Big Boss, as the school is affectionately called, together with Navrongo Senior High School (NAVASCO) and Bolgatanga Girls’ Senior High School (BOGISS), booked a place at the national championship on the first day of the Upper East Regional Qualifiers, which took place on June 21, 2024 at GNAT Hall in Bolgatanga.
But NAVASCO, for instance, lived up to their tag as “Light of the North”, illuminating every round of the contest and outshining their opponents – Paga Senior High School and China Senior High School.
At the end of the contest, NAVASCO amassed 51 points against their opponents – Paga SHS and China SHS- who managed to secure 3 and 2 points respectively.
The second contest of the day was a battle among BIG BOSS, Bawku Senior High School and Fumbiisi SHS.
However, BIG BOSS could not rise shoulders high and make the east proud as the Pride of the East that they are supposed to be.
They started off the contest poorly, trailing Bawku SHS until round 3 when they managed to overtake Bawku SHS by just a point difference.
They maintained the lead by just a point ending the contest with 18 points and followed immediately by Bawku SHS with 17 points with Fumbiisi SHS placing last with 7 points.
BIG BOSS have, thus, secured a slot at the National Championship.
But despite their qualification, many social media users including old students of the school are unimpressed with their performance and have been voicing their disappointment.
