HARUNA IDDRISU AND MUNTAKA MUBARAK, FORMER MINORITY LEADERS

The exclusion of notable figures like Former Minority Leader, Haruna Iddrisu and Former Majority Chief Whip Mubarak Muntaka from the National Democratic Congress’ (NDC’s) National Campaign Team for the 2024 elections has got tongues wagging  with some suggesting the two are being sidelined because of the controversies that led to their removal as leaders of the minority caucus in parliament.

But Former Member of Parliament for Tamale Central, Alhaji Inusah Fuseini has dispelled the talk about the two being side-lined.

According to him, the constitution of the National Campaign team of the NDC is often done based on a formula that requires various groups within the party to nominate individuals for the team with the national executives becoming members by default.

Apart from not being nominated by any of the interest groups, no member of Parliament is part of the national campaign team because it is expected that they will work hard in the various regions to win their respective seats.

“Haruna and Muntaka have not been side-lined. The arrangement to constitute a campaign team is clearly by a formula and it’s not by the fact people have occupied positions.

And you realized that they are Members of Parliament. And Members of Parliament are not part of the Campaign Team. Because they have campaigns to run so you can’t put them in charge of  campaign teams when they have got campaigns to run”.

The list of the 19- Member campaign team, according  to the party, was concluded after extensive consultations and deliberations.

Speaking Wednesday on the State of Our Nation, Alhaji Fuseini noted that not being named in the national campaign team does not prevent any individual member of the party from contributing to the party’s victory.

“Individuals would have to be nominated by various groups unless you’re holding a national executive position. If you’re holding a national executive position, you become a campaign team member by default. But the rest would have to be nominated by various groups and offices,” he stated.
