PARTS OF THE CHPS COMPOUND REQUIRING A FACE-LIFT

The Assembly Member for Soe-Yipaala Electoral Area in the Bolgatanga Municipality of the Upper East Region is appealing for support to effectively operationalize a recently established CHPS Compound in Soe.

Established earlier this year, the Soe CHPS Compound brings to an end decades of unending efforts to set up a public health facility in the community.

The facility, which is operating at the premises of the St. Joseph Catholic Church, was established following a community drive, led by the Assembly Member for the Soe-Yipaala, Electoral Area, who identified the absence of such a facility as a major hindrance to the health and well-being of the community.

Donations from some benevolent community members have helped to renovate portions of a big structure given out by the Catholic Church for use as the CHPS Compound.

A few delivery beds have been bought with major parts including the renovation of a consulting room, laboratory, accommodation for some health workers, and other ancillary facilities and equipment needed to fully operationalize the facility.

Primary health care is essential health care that is based on scientifically sound and socially acceptable methods and technology. This makes universal health care accessible to all individuals and families in a community.

It is on this score that the Assembly Member for Soe-Yipaala Electoral Area, Justice Aduko, is appealing to residents of the community, benevolent individuals, and organizations to come to the aid of the community.

Mr. Adoku explained that the establishment and proper operationalization of the facility in Soe will significantly ease the pressure on the Upper East Regional Hospital since some minor and not too-severe cases can be managed at the new facility.

According to him, the facility will soon be accredited as a health center if the other facilities have been duly added to provide improved care.

“I realized that we don’t have a health facility to our name and to provide services. So, I took the initiative to involve the community to establish one. Very kind and senior people in the community supported. Thanks to the Catholic Church, we have this entire facility.” he stated

“But we need some lie-in beds, we need equipment for the laboratory and then we need to make provisions to accommodate critical staff. For now, we need lab instruments, we need paint, we need cement, we need tables, chairs, and other test kits. So, I am appealing to all residents of Soe and benevolent bodies and organizations because it is bad that we don’t have a health facility in Soe. This facility is necessary because it will bring health closer to the doorsteps of people and ease the burden on the regional hospital.”

JUSTICE ADUKO, ASSEMBLY MEMBER FOR SOE-YIPAALA

George Nyaabire, a Senior Enrolled Nurse at the Soe CHPS Compound, noted that Soe has a large population that deserves a health facility that is close to provide basic healthcare.

He joined the assembly member to appeal for support to fully operationalize the facility.

“I think there is the need for us to have this facility here so we can help treat the people around. We can deal with maternity cases, malaria, and other conditions that can be managed at our level, so we need a lot.” He stressed.

PART OF THE FACILITY CURRENTLY IN USE

Meanwhile, the CHPS Compounds in Soe and Yipaala will from 24th to 26th host a free health screening.
