Stephen Akugre, the Assembly Member for Sherigu Kumbelingo, who has been elected as the Presiding Member for the Bolgatanga Municipal Assembly, has pledged to unite all assembly members and to approach matters of development with all the seriousness they deserve.
Though excited about his election especially after a protracted period without a successful presiding member election, he noted that Bolgatanga as a regional capital does not reflect its status as the heartbeat of the region.
He pointed out that there are several areas including roads, sanitation, health and education among others begging for urgent attention.
He identified entrenched partisan positions as a major challenge to the development of the Municipality adding his desire to unite the assembly members to build consensus on such issues.
He further assured the assembly members of his readiness to work in their common interest as he urged residents of the municipality to not politicize every developmental activity.
“The people of Bolgatanga, I think we have to wake up. Bolga does not look like it is a Municipality and the regional capital if you look at sanitation issues and other developmental problems and I think it is the partisan issues that are killing the municipality. The division and the politics are too much but I will try as much as possible to create an enabling environment to bring them together because we are not here for political parties.” He emphasized.
