Former president, John Dramani Mahama is calling on Ghanaians to get actively involved in the 2024 presidential and parliamentary elections and ensure the New Patriotic Party (NPP) is voted out of power.
Mr. Mahama, who is the flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), believes this will ensure appointees of the government are held accountable for their stewardship and answer for corrupt acts they are alleged to have been involved.
Interacting with his followers on social media last night, the former leader claimed the governing party is plotting to foist the Vice-President, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia on Ghanaians in order to cover up their alleged bad deeds.
But that, Mr. Mahama said, should not be allowed to succeed and thus, call on Ghanaians to vote against the NPP to abort the supposed ploy.
“This change will help to abort this administration’s plan to foist a pliant Vice-President on us to cover up for them and thereby escape the scrutiny of accountability” .
He vowed to ensure thorough investigations into corruption scandals involving appointees of the current administration and ensure those found culpable are prosecuted.
“The change will also see the most far-reaching and detailed investigation of the many allegations of corruption and scandals levelled against public officials and their families and friends”.
But the quest for accountability, if he is elected president, Mr. Mahama stated, will not be limited to appointees of the NPP government.
It will also rope in errant members of his future government, he said.
Underscoring the importance of the upcoming elections, he said, “It’s ordained by God to relieve our people from the hardships and poverty that has been inflicted by president Akufo-Addo and Dr. Bawumia’s reckless administration. That change will put Ghana back on the path of progress and prosperity, enabling us to build the Ghana we want and create well-paying jobs for the young people of this country”.
