Non-profit organization, SheRise Ghana’s quest to provide sanitary products for menstruating girls in schools has received a boost following a donation made towards the cause.
The organization led by its founder, Sarah Teni Babohima has been supporting schoolgirls with sanitary products and sensitizing them on reproductive health.
This is aimed at tackling period poverty, girls absenting themselves from school due to their monthly flow or engaging in transactional sex to cater for their menstrual needs.
The price of sanitary products has skyrocketed in recent times, making them unaffordable to many girls especially those from poor backgrounds.
As a result, some have resorted to unhygienic ways of catching menstrual flow or engaged in transactional sex in order to afford the products.
It is on this basis that SheRise Ghana has initiated the sanitary products donation to tackle the menace.
The initiative has drawn public applause with some individuals and organizations contributing in various ways towards it.
The latest to join the trail of contributors towards the initiative is CEO of Aquabolg Mineral Water, Humul Khrusum Tahiru.
Making a donation of GH¢2,000, Humul Khrusum indicated her readiness to continue supporting the initiative in anyway she can.
CEO of the SheRise Ghana, Teni Babohimah, who was elated about the donation, assured her of putting the money to good use.
“I’m very grateful to her , she is one of the selfless female media personalities I have ever come across in the region and I love her so much. She is always there to give me that little push I need”.
She added, “From my team and I at SheRise Ghana, we want to assure the CEO of Aquabolg mineral water that this money will be used for its rightful purpose”.
