In a heartwarming gesture, She-Rise Ghana, a non-governmental organization, marked this year’s World Menstrual Hygiene Day by donating sanitary pads to over 300 female students of the Gambibgo Community Day Senior High School in the Bolgatanga-East District of the Upper East Region.
This thoughtful act addressed a pressing need for many young girls who struggle to access essential menstrual hygiene products.
Humul Krhusum Tahiru, representing the founder, Sarah Teni Babohimah, emphasized the significance of the donation.
She noted that, “Many of these girls resort to using rags, toilet rolls, and other unhygienic materials as alternatives to sanitary pads, which can lead to health issues and embarrassment. This donation aims to bridge the gap in accessing menstrual hygiene products and promote good hygiene practices.”
The program included an interactive session on menstrual hygiene, led by the She-Rise Ghana team.
The students learned about the importance of proper menstrual hygiene, how to maintain cleanliness during their periods, and how to dispose of sanitary products properly.
The team also encouraged the girls to prioritize their education and strive for greatness.
Juliana Abazeesi, the Assistant Headmistress of Gambibgo SHS expressed her gratitude to Sarah Teni Babohimah and the She-Rise Ghana team for their kindness.
She said, “This donation is a timely intervention, as many of our students struggle to access sanitary pads. We appreciate the effort to promote menstrual hygiene awareness and support the well-being of our girls”.
She-Rise Ghana’s initiative demonstrates the impact of community support in addressing the needs of young girls and promoting their well-being.
By providing essential items and promoting menstrual hygiene awareness, the organization is helping to create a more supportive and inclusive environment for girls to thrive.
