It has emerged that Ghana’s security agencies foiled plans by the Western Togoland secessionist group to burn the Ho Central market in the Volta region.
A joint Military and Police statement issued on Friday September 25, 2020 disclosed that “an earlier pre-emptive operation on Thursday 24 September 2020, foiled a plan by the group to burn the Ho Central market and other key installations.”
The Homeland Study Group Foundation led by 85 year old Charles Kwame Kudzodzi on Friday September 25, 2020 blocked some major roads in the Volta region and attempted taking some key state installations including the Kpong Hydroelectric Dam in Akuse.
The secessionist group have since been demanding a breakaway from Ghana.
The Friday dawn violent actions of the group has led to the death of one person, injured three others while 31 have been arrested and flown to the nation’s capital, Accra.
“We wish to reassure the general public that the Security and Intelligence Agencies are in firm control of the situation and remain undaunted in their resolve at preserving and protecting the sanctity of the entire territory of our dear country,” the statement added.
