Contrary to the Electoral Commission’s announcement that it has dismissed one of its officials, who was found to have entered onto the registration forms fake Ghana Card numbers, at the Pusiga District office, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) claimed the said official is still at post.
According to the EC, “During the Voters Registration Exercise on 13th May 2024, a Data Entry Clerk observed suspicious Ghana Card numbers on 17 registration forms. The Data Entry Clerk notified the District Electoral Officer accordingly”.
It said its investigation confirmed that the said Ghana Card numbers were fake and that “the registration officer was complicit because he did not physically inspect the Ghana Card of individual applicants but rather accepted the fake numbers from party agents who had accompanied the 17 applicants”.
The officer, the EC indicated, was subsequently dismissed and arrested following a complaint filed with the police and has since been granted a police enquiry bail.
But speaking in an interview on Breakfast Today on Dreamz FM, Regional Communication Officer of the NDC, Abdallah Jonathan Salifu disputed the EC’s claim of dismissing the officer.
He contended that the officer was seen at post as recent as yesterday and thus, it is not true that he has been dismissed.
“The EC tells us that the gentleman has been suspended. But as I speak to you the gentleman is still working. He is still at the EC office working,” he stated.
“Maybe because of the further exposé, the gentleman will not show up today, but I can tell you that even as at yesterday, he was at work. But you see in the EC’s statement, they say he was dismissed. When somebody is dismissed, it means he is no longer at work. But he was still at work”.
