The Former President and Flagbearer of the Opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Dramani Mahama, has hit back at President Akufo-Addo’s recent comments.

Mahama’s response comes after Akufo-Addo asked Ghanaians not to entrust the affairs of the country to the former leader, stating that he (Mahama) would destroy the progress made under his (current) administration if voted back to office.

Mahama was blunt and direct in his response, stating, “Of course, I will not protect your ‘legacy’ of corruption, misgovernance, arrogance, ineptitude, bankrupt economy, increased unemployment, and pushing more of our people into the poverty bracket.”

In a scathing response on his Facebook page, Mr Mahama went on to list a series of what he describes as failures of the Akufo-Addo administration, including a “bankrupt economy and increased unemployment”.

Akufo-Addo’s earlier comments had sparked controversy, with many interpreting them as a sign of desperation and fear of his party losing the 2024 General Elections.

Mahama’s response has further fueled the political tensions between the two leaders and their respective parties.
