Leader and flagbearer of the opposition National Democratic Congress John Dramani Mahama has served notice that the party is no longer able to restrain itself in the face of anomalies associated with the electoral process leading to the 2020 general elections.

According to the former president, the new voters register is inundated with deficiencies and therefore lacks credibility, a concern he has charged the electoral commission to immediately address.

Speaking at a press conference in Accra on Thursday on the party’s concerns with the credibility of the provisional voter register which is currently being exhibited, Mr Mahama said he will not accept results of a flawed election in December.

According to him, though the NDC has exercised restraint throughout the past electoral process, it will not shirk its civic responsibility in the face of the glaring anomalies and “allow the EC, whether by ill intent or sheer incompetence, to usurp the people’s mandate in the December 7 polls”.

“We in the NDC have exhibited restraint at all times in this electoral process. Even now, we are committed to doing so. But, let me serve notice once again that we’ll not accept results of a flawed election,” the former President stated.

He reminded the EC that “political parties are critical stakeholders in the electoral process and all of them must feel confident that they have participated in the processes leading up to the elections. That is what makes it easier for a party to accept that it has lost the elections.”

Meanwhile, the commission has set October 1, 2020 for the registration of persons who could not register in the last exercise.
