Conditions of service of workers in the country have deteriorated to unprecedented levels under the current government, former Member of Parliament for Binduri Constituency Robert Baba Kuganab-Lem has said.
According to him, the government has failed to improve conditions of service of workers in the public sector.
This coupled with the prevailing economic difficulties, he said, has left workers both in the private and public sectors worse off.
“For the general conditions of service, I’m saying the economy is down. If the economy is down, there is no productivity. So everybody’s conditions of service in the country today have deteriorated to unprecedented levels. All Ghanaians apart from the Ministers and those who are working at the flag staff house and it’s because they are stealing,” he stated in an interview on Breakfast Today on Dreamz FM.
Mr. Kuganab-Lem believes the situation is accounting for the mass exodus of workers particularly healthcare professionals from the country.
It is reported that over 5,000 nurses and midwives left the country over a period of 3 years.
The former MP said although brain drain has been a long-standing issue, it has worsen in recent times due to the economic situation.
