Joel Nsobila Atinga has described as challenging his just concluded Guinness World Record attempt for the longest barbecue marathon by an individual.
He said although he has been in the trade of grilling kebab for years, the stringent rules of the GWR that he had to observe throughout the attempt made it tough.
The youngster made this revelation in an interview on Breakfast News on Dreamz FM following a successful completion of his attempt.
Atinga began the audacious challenge on April 11, 2024 until April 15 when he had done 90 hours 30 minutes of grilling kebab.
He is seeking to dethrone the current record holder, an American by name Jan Greef, who set it at 80 hours in 2014.
Atinga, while indicating he and his team are currently compiling evidence of his efforts to be presented to Guinness World Record for a review, stated that he ensured strict compliance to the rules governing the competition.
“It was something very challenging but yet worth it. Though I do grill kebab but this one was something I was doing and you have to follow rules and there was no stopping. I was going 4 hours then I would break for 20 minutes,” he told Nicholas Azebira.
He is excited that he has been able to pull through and look forward to a favourable verdict.
But beyond his desire to hold the record for the longest barbecue marathon, Atinga intends to set other kebab joints in his attempt to create employment opportunities for other youngsters.
He will also be embarking on an advocacy for safe meat preparation and consumption.
“I want to setup some joints so that I get some people to be working and it will be a source of employment. We also look at ways to advocate sustainable meat intake in Ghana as well”.
