The Electoral Commission is set to conduct another voter registration exercise to enable persons who could not register in the last exercise to register.

The reopening of the registration which will be conducted in one day will be carried out on October 1, 2020.

“The Electoral Commission (EC) wishes to inform the General Public that it is re-opening the Voters Registration Exercise for one day. This is to give opportunity to those who have attained the age of Eighteen (18) and Citizens who for one reason or the other were not able to register in the just ended Registration Exercise. The date for the exercise is Thursday, 1st October, 2020,” a statement from the commission said.

It added that “the Registration will take place in the district offices nationwide”.

This decision by the EC follows an Inter Party Advisory Committee meeting held on Thursday September 24, 2020.

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has however kicked against the decision. Its representative at the meeting Kwame Osei Agyemang-Griffiths explained that the registered voters will not meet the legal requirements to enable them vote given that all voters must be registered at least 60 days before the elections.

The EC is currently exhibiting the voter’s register to enable voter crosscheck their details. It had planned to end the exhibition exercise on 25th September, but has had to extend it to 27th September following numerous complaints from voters who have been unable to find their names in the register.
