Joel Atinga Nsobila, a resident of the Upper East Region is appealing for financial support as he kick-starts his attempt to the Guinness World Record for the longest Barbecue marathon.
Atinga is scheduled to commence the attempt at dawn on April 11, 2024 and is expected to continue till April 14, 2024 by which time he would broken the current record and set a new one.
The present record was set by an American at 80 minutes in 2014.
Atinga targets to break this decade long record and and he believes doing so will project his home region, the Upper East Region.
But just a little over a day to the start of his record breaking attempt, Atinga said he has yet to secure most of the items for the event.
“Unfortunately, we have not gotten a cow yet but we’ve gotten some of the goats and some cold stores that have provided us with the chicken and the sauges and the gizzards as well,” he said.
Speaking in an interview on Breakfast News on Dreamz FM, the young man stated although preparations are ongoing, he will need more support especially financially to purchase the required items and pay for the setup in order to ensure a seamless attempt.
“If someone were to give me assistance today, I would’ve preferred to be cash because some of things we are doing is financially demanding because the stage and the sound system, everything to put in place before the resources is demanding so I will actually appeal for financial assistance as I stand now”.
While expressing gratitude to those who have so far lent a helping hand, he said his call for support was yet to yield the expected results.
“Truth be told, the support is not forthcoming as expected. I have reached out to people but unfortunately, we don’t see positive results but we believe. But I believe those I have reached out to have not forgotten about me and it is only the way”.
He is, however, hopeful that as he commences the attempt, many others will come in to lend a helping hand.
