Political Activist and Former General Secretary of the People’s National Convention(PNC) Atik Mohammed has described as distasteful a letter from Peace FM’s management seeking to make peace with the National Democratic Congress (NDC) following the NDC’s boycott of the station’s flagship political programme, Krokrooko.
Kokrooko, a programme hosted by celebrated journalist Kwame Sefa Kayi, was boycotted by the NDC in May. The NDC’s National Communications Officer alleged that the show was biased against the NDC.
Recently, rumour had it that the NDC was secretly begging to be allowed back on the programme. This rumour was swiftly dispelled by the NDC that maintained that they had no intentions of reappearing on the show.
Now though, management of Peace FM has officially written to the NDC appealing to them to call out their boycott.
But Mr Atik Mohammed has argued that the decision of the management to write to the NDC is distasteful, explaining that the letter ridicules the host, his team, the platform and discerning listeners.
“The host and crew of the only show that has cemented your brand is insulted by a group, after which they exile themselves from the show.
Months later, the very person who led the charge, further insults the platform itself as being overrated. Realizing the platform is the biggest in the industry and how much loss they have incurred by their boycott, they signal their desire to return to the show. To maintain the standards and credibility of the show, they ought to have apologized for the unprovoked attacks on the host and the platform as a precedent condition. Yet what does the Manager do, he “acknowledges responsibility for the misunderstanding”-whatever that is. This is distasteful to say the least. This action ridicules the host, the production team, the platform, contributing panelists and indeed the discerning audience,” he asserted.
Meanwhile some supporters of the NDC on social media have urged the party leadership to ignore the letter from Peace FM and allow the boycott to stand.
