The opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Upper East Region has rubbished the governing New Patriotic Party’s (NPP’s) projection of winning at least 7 seats in the 2024 elections.

Regional Communications Officer of the NDC Abdallah Jonathan Salifu said the governing party stands no chance of winning even a single seat in the region in the upcoming elections.

According to him, the NPP does not have credible parliamentary candidates in the region to win against that of the NDC in the polls.

The governing NPP currently holds just a seat in the region but aims to increase the number to 7 in this year’s elections.

It also hopes to significantly increase its presidential votes in the elections.

Speaking in an interview on State of Our Nation on Dreamz FM, the party’s Communications Director for the region Peter Ayinbisa said a research it conducted in the region shows it stands a chance of winning more than the stated figure if its campaign is well executed.

He said the party is therefore tasking its regional campaign team to work hard to increase its fortunes in the polls.

But Abdallah Jonathan rubbished the NPP’s protections.

He said aside from the party lacking credible candidates, its campaign team is not united to prosecute a successful campaign that will give it such results.

“The NPP as we speak claimed they have inaugurated their campaign team yesterday.  What we are only being is that some people who contested the Regional chairman, who contested the regional secretary are being exempted from this team,” he stated.

“With these crop of people, let them not deceive anybody that they are going to win even a single additional seat. In fact the only seat they hold now, they are going to lose it.

I don’t know any constituency and I wish you any of them and they should tell us on what grounds do they think that their new candidates that Ayinbisa described as credible are truly credible and can contest and win the elections.”
