A former General Secretary of the People’s National Convention (PNC) Atik Mohammed has argued that the letter from the management of Peace FM taking responsibility for misunderstandings that led to the boycott of the station’s Kokrooko programme by the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and inviting the party back is a way of ridiculing the host of the programme and its host, Kwame Sefa Kayi.
For him, it is the NDC that discredited the Kokrooko show hosted by Kwame Sefa Kayi and should have apologised, asserting that the management’s decision to rather apologise to the NDC is distasteful and makes a mockery of the host, his production team, the platform, panelists and listeners.
“The host and crew of the only show that has cemented your brand is insulted by a group, after which they exile themselves from the show. Months later, the very person who led the charge, further insults the platform itself as being overrated. Realizing the platform is the biggest in the industry and how much loss they have incurred by their boycott, they signal their desire to return to the show. To maintain the standards and credibility of the show, they ought to have apologized for the unprovoked attacks on the host and the platform as a precedent condition. Yet what does the Manager do, he “acknowledges responsibility for the misunderstanding”-whatever that is. This is distasteful to say the least.
This action ridicules the host, the production team, the platform, contributing panelists and indeed the discerning audience. The question I’m inclined to ask is, would the PNC have received a similar cuddle from Peace fm were we the perpetrators of these attacks? The obvious answer is No,” he argued on social media.
The NDC, in May this year, boycotted the Kokrooko Show on Peace FM, alleging bias in the empaneling of discussants on the programme.
A few weeks ago, there were reports of the NDC begging management of the station to appear on the programme again.
On Wednesday September 23, 2020, management of the station sent a letter to the NDC literally appealing to them to reconsider their boycott and return to the programme.
But Mr Atik Mohammed believes the action of the management undermines the host of the programme who was the target for insults by some members of the NDC.
