The National Democratic Congress (NDC) Parliamentary Candidate in the Bongo Constituency, Lawyer Charles Bawadua has donated food items to Muslims in the constituency as they fast to mark the holy Ramadan month.
The items which included bags of sugar and boxes of Lipton were presented to representatives from the Ahlus Sunnah Wal Jamaah, Tijaniyyah and Ahmadiyya groupings for onward distribution to their respective communities.
Lawyer Bawadua also made available an undisclosed amount of money to the Ahlus Sunnah Wal Jamaah for some furniture works to be carried out in an Islamic School in the community.
During Ramadan, Muslims fast from dawn until dusk without food and water. This fasting helps them grow spiritually and empathize with those who are less fortunate.
However, certain food commodities like sugar and tea among others are very essential to Muslims in carrying out the one month obligation, especially before and after the fast each day.
Speaking to Dreamz News after the donation, Lawyer Bawadua noted that, his benevolence to the Muslim communities was to show appreciation for their prayers to the development of Ghana and more importantly Bongo Constituency.
He said, “I’m here to show appreciation for the period of fasting and the intensive prayers they [Muslims] are undertaking for Ghana and the people of Bongo. I also recognize that, during this fasting and praying in this economic crunch, it’s difficult for everyone, and they will need assistance for them to be able to remain strong, so we have come with sugar and boxes of Lipton to support them”.
“I wish them a successful Ramadan. I urge them to remain committed to the development of this country. They should not forget in their prayer that, this country needs intervention with a good leader. They should ask God to intercede. So when John Mahama is elected president, and I’m elected Member of Parliament, together we will bring about the developmental needs of the people”. He added.
Receiving the items on behalf of the Muslim communities, the District Chief Imam, Salifu Mohammed Bashiru expressed his joy and appreciation to Lawyer Bawadua for the kind gesture at this crucial period of their fasting journey.
