The New Patriotic Party in the Upper East Region has expressed sorrow over the death of Deputy Minister of Finance Dr. John Ampontuah Kumah.

Dr. John Kumah died in the early hours of March 7, 2024 while being transported to Accra to be flown to Germany for treatment.

He was said to have been unwell since December 2023 and was getting back on his feet after seeking treatment abroad.

His condition, however, deteriorated on March 6, 2024, necessitating a return to Germany for further medical care.

But he died at Suhum while he was being transported to the national capital to be flown out.

His sudden demise shook the entire country, forcing Parliament to suspend sittings yesterday.

The governing New Patriotic Party (NPP), which he was a member, has since directed that all party flags fly at half-mast for the next 7 days.

Speaking in an interview on Breakfast News on Dreamz FM, Upper East Regional Communications Director of the NPP Peter Ayinbisa described his death as a great loss to the party and government.

He eulogised the late Deputy Minister as articulate, down to earth and a pillar to the party’s strength in the Ashanti Region.

“This is very difficult and trying times for our party the New Patriotic Party. The passing on of John Kumah has left a deeper hole in the NPP party. If you know who John Kumah was, you will come to appreciate the fact that he’s one of the pillars behind the strength of the NPP in the Ashanti Region and most particularly, the Ejisu Constituency,” he stated.

“A big tree has fallen, a hero has fallen and owe giant has fallen and we are deeply worried about it”.
