President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo is urging Ghanaians stop wallowing in the country’s past glory and work for a better future.
The president said although it is imperative to knowledge Ghana’s past achievements and pay homage to the forebears, Ghanaians should be positive about the future and work towards making things better.
“On a day like this, we should pay homage, of course as I have done to our forbears and the elders who fought for independence and worked through the years to establish all that we have to be proud of today. But our attitude should always be that there better days ahead and work towards that instead of yearning for bygone good old days,” he said.
He noted that the country has chalked many successes and distinguished itself from its neighbours.
However, he entreated Ghanaians to aspire to make the country the best that there ever is.
“When we look around our neighbourhood, we might be tempted to think that our work is done. But we Ghanaians have never been known to settle for mediocrity. We aim for the best in every field. We should compare ourselves to the best there is and not settle for anything less. For as long as there is poverty and injustice anywhere in Ghana, our work is not done”.
President Akufo-Addo said this at the 67th Independence Day Parade in Koforidua in the Eastern Region.
He indicated that the country is on a verge of full economic recovery, adding that two deals that have been signed with the private sector will aid that recovery.
