Some opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) supporters on social media have warned the party against reversing its decision to boycott Peace FM’s Kokrooko programme, asserting that such a decision will be unwise, and unhelpful to the cause of the NDC.
The angry supporters say the show which they believe is bias against the NDC can proceed without any effect on the fortunes of the party.
“NDC should never return to that station. They should continue their one sided show. The party is bigger than Kwame Sefa Kayi,” a social media by name Samuel Kwesi Armah wrote.
Prince Baah, another social media user, wrote “The NDC should skip them for good! Bias station!”
The management of Peace FM has appealed to the NDC to rescind its decision to boycott the station’s Kokrooko show and return. But many supporters on social media have asked that the NDC remain resolute.
In May this year, the NDC announced its boycott of the programme over claims of bias in the empanelling of persons for the political talk segment of the programme.
Then, they were speculations that the NDC had engaged in behind the scenes lobbying to be allowed by Peace FM on the show again. But National Communications Officer Sammy Gyamfi maintained that the boycott still held and the NDC had no intentions of returning to the programme and had not begged to be on the programme again.
However, in a letter addressed to the General Secretary of NDC, the management of Peace FM, while taking blame for the misunderstanding that led to the boycott, appealed to the NDC to call off the boycott.
“The management of Peace FM, the mother station of Despite Media, wishes to state that we are not at loggerheads with the NDC. Since the inception of Peace FM on May 25, 1999, we have had a mutually beneficial relationship with all political parties, including the NDC,” the letter stated.
It continued: “However, in recent times, there has been a misunderstanding between us and the NDC in relation to the paneling of the discussion segment of the Kokrokoo show”.
“The management of Despite Media, acknowledges responsibility for whatever misunderstanding that has arisen between us and the NDC in recent times. We, therefore, urge the NDC to let sleeping dogs lie and allow harmony to reign and return to the Kokrokoo show,” it added.
The hand of reconciliation extended by the management of Peace FM to the opposition NDC has however been rejected by some supporters of the party who insist the boycott must continue.
