As many women are expectant of gifts from their male partners on the occasion of Valentine’s Day, they have been advised to also cultivate the habit of showering their partners with presents.

Speaking on the significance of the day christened Chocolate Day in Ghana, Bakiva Monica, a youth leader, said relationship is not a one-sided affair thus, women should learn to give presents to their partners especially on special occasions and not always fold their arms waiting to receive.

She asserted that the act of gifting does not only attract blessings as Christianity teaches but endears one to their partner.

“Love is not one way. It’s two sides of a coin. So as you are receiving, you should also be giving. Learn to also give you. You shouldn’t only be at the receiving end. God himself says that blessed are those who give not those who receive. So as you want someone to shower you with gifts, also learn to shower others with gifts,” she stated on Breakfast Today on Dreamz FM.

Monica also urged women to be appreciative when their partners buy them presents.

She noted some women, instead of being grateful when gifted, usually chastise their partners either over the quality of the gift or for not giving them the money to get the present themselves.

This, she observes, discourages men from showering their loved ones with gifts.

“Sometimes, we women discourage our men from giving us gifts. You are home, your husband is back from a trip or from work and he presents you a gift and instantly, she gets angry instead of appreciating it. A gift is a gift,” she said.

“Even if you don’t like it the way the thing is way, maybe, the colour or the shape of it, you can say ‘sweetheart, thank you very much but I would prefer next time if you are buying something like this for me, it should be like this or that’. We are all learning, he will get to know your taste”.
