The Bolgatanga Municipal Assembly after years of challenges in constructing a complex to be used as the district court has finally delivered on its mandate.
Over the years, the district court officials have had to make do with some space at the former Workers College which has now become a distance learning center for the University of Ghana.
They have for long been served with letters to vacate the premises with the judicial service threatening to move the district court away from Bolga to Zuaruangu.
The challenge has now been addressed following the completion of a court complex with judge’s office and six other offices.
Speaking at a brief handing over ceremony on Wednesday, the Municipal Chief Executive for Bolgatanga, Rex Asanga, described as a great relief that the assembly after land related issues finally executed the project.
“Bolga does not have a District Court and so the Chief Justice came here some few years back. asked that if we don’t have a place for them, they should move to Zuarungu because Zuarungu has put up a court and it is sitting there and that’s the reason why the Municipal Assembly decided that it was time to put up a court complex for the District Magistrate Court and that’s why today we have achieved what we have achieved,” he said.
“I’m very pleased and I want to thank the land owners, the people of Bukere for cooperating with us to achieve this project because initially, we had a lot of problems over the land but eventually, they cooperated and we have been able to achieve this and so we must thank them so much for helping us achieve what we have achieved today”.
