Deputy Chief Executive Officer of the National Youth Authority (NYA), Akosua Manu is surprised that aggrieved customers of defunct gold dealership company, Menzgold Ghana Limited are now piling pressure on government to take action against CEO of the firm.

According to her, the customers flagrantly ignored warnings by government not to engage in transactions with the firm.

She recalled how regulatory agencies, on several occasions, issued notices, cautioning the public against doing business with the firm as it did not have the requisite license to engage in such activities.

But the customers, she stated, blatantly disregarded the warnings with some even accusing government officials of being  jealous of the CEO’s entrepreneurial prowess.

“When concerns were raised about the investment process and the pay-outs, the same Menzgold customers said it was not government business where they invest money and after all, it wasn’t that they got the money from government

In  fact some went as far as saying that people were just jealous of NAM1’s entrepreneurial spirit and drive  and his concern for people to actually get what they deserve in investment,” she stated.

“Clearly, there’s huge public outcry calling for his head now and it’s interesting that the people that said we were being jealous of his business accruement and his visionary whatever are now saying that why isn’t government taking hin on”.

She argued that the aggrieved clients of the company would not have found themselves in this distraught situation if they had heeded to the caution by the regulatory agencies.

The Deputy NYA CEO was speaking on the new charges preferred against CEO of the company, Nana Appiah Mensah better known as  NAM 1.

The Attorney General, on Wednesday, August 30, filed new charges at an Accra High Court against Mr. Appiah Mensah while discontinuing an ongoing trial of him at a Circuit Court.

This was after it came under public pressure over its handling of the case.

Mr. Appiah Mensah, who has been standing trial, since 2019, for defrauding customers of his company, recently  announced plans to pay the aggrieved customers their locked up investment but demanded that they pay a fee of GH¢650 each to have their claims  verified.

The announcement, however, prompted public backlash with many  accusing him of plotting another scheme to defraud unsuspecting populace.

Many had also taken on the AG over delay in the case against the CEO as they believe the situation has embolden him to continue his alleged fraudulent activities.

But in what appears to be a response to the criticism, the A-G discontinued the old case which was being heard at the circuit court and preferred fresh charges against him at the High Court.
