Four persons in the Upper East region have died from the recent heavy downpours that have caused severe flood situations in several parts of the region.
According to the National Disaster Management Organisation, two persons died in the Binduri District, one in the Talensi District and another in the Builsa North District all in the upper east region.
Several houses have also been submerged under water with hundreds of people seeking refuge in schools, churches and uncompleted fuel stations.
Upper East Regional NADMO Coordinator Jerry Asamani disclosed that the deaths were largely caused by the collapse of houses.
“We have recorded four [deaths]. One woman, two teenagers and one man,” he said.
He explained that three of the deceased were killed by collapsed houses while one was drowned in the Sisila River in the Builsa North District.
Meanwhile, Hundreds of travelers and vehicles have been stuck on the stretch as officials of the National Disaster Management Organisation and the Police have mounted a barricade, to prevent anyone from attempting to cross the invisible bridge and portions of the road.
Some travelers and transport operators who spoke to dreamzfmonline.com bemoaned the effect of the situation on their schedules and businesses.
The travelers say an intervention from government to fly them across will be highly welcomed.
