Vice President Dr. Mahmudu Bawumia has disclosed that the New Patriotic Party’s manifesto promise to establish music recording studios in some regional capitals was proposed by Tamale based singer Fancy Gadam.
As part of its plans for the creative arts industry in Ghana, the governing New Patriotic Party has stated in its 2020 manifesto a decision to establish world class recording studios in about five cities in Ghana namely Accra, Tema Kumasi, Takoradi and Tamale.
The move according to the Vice President is aimed at offering the needed opportunity and logistical support to young and talented artists to build their chosen career in music.
In an interview on Tamale based Fiila Fm monitored by dreamzfmonline.com, Dr. Mahmudu Bawumia revealed that the idea to partner the private sector to setup the ultra-modern recording studios was mooted after a conversation with Fancy Gadam.
“Let me say that on the matter of the recording studios, it was Fancy Gadam who gave me that idea. In a conversation with him he told me in this part of the country the recording studios issue is a problem. So I thought about it and accepted that this is an issue government must step in. The talent of our young people is enormous and so having recording studios in the north, Kumasi, Takoradi and Accra will make it easier for them to go there and do their recording. We will make them world class standard,” he said.
Dr. Bawumia observed that the unavailability of high quality recording studios, coupled with the inability of young private individuals to invest in such a venture will adversely affect the abundant talent of singers and other creative arts industry players. A reason setting up a world class recording studio in Tamale is prudent and will be done in the next administration of the New Patriotic Party.
