A native of Dua, a suburb of Bongo District of the Upper East Region, Prof. Emmanuel Akanyinrige has donated boxes of African Literature Books to 9 Senior High Schools (SHSs) in the region.
The donation was in line with the US-based Ghanaian philanthropist’s commitment to ensuring an improved educational outcome in the region.
The beneficiary schools included Gowrie Senior High School, Zorkor Senior High School, Bongo Senior High School, Beo Senior High School, Namoo Senior High School, Kongo Senior High School, Zuarungu Senior High School, Bolgatanga Senior High School and Bongo Senior High School.
The Novel titled ‘The Shrinking Bowl’ written by G. A Agambila, highlights difficult socio-economic environments some Girls in Ghana are confronted with. It is a story of one such Girl from childhood to middle-age and the lessons of this life journey.
Presenting the books to the Heads of the various schools on his behalf, the Paramount Chief of Bongo Traditional Area, Bonaba Baba Salifu Lemyaarum said, “He [Prof. Akanyinrige] has always had the desire to support the Senior High Schools within Bongo and the BONABOTO catchment areas. We have actually discussed a lot, but every thousand miles begins with one step so he decided to send these books as a beginning while we wait for what will come next”.
“I’m happy that he is not thinking of only Bongo, but our neighbors, Bolga, Nabdam and others” – He added.
Chief Lemyaarum urged the beneficiary students to learn hard and make their teachers and parents proud, while he admonished them to make proper use of the books donated to them.
The Assistant Headmistress of the Bongo SHS on behalf of all the beneficiary schools thanked Prof. Akanyinrige for the kind gesture and assured that the books will be used for their purposes.
