Parliamentary Candidate of the Governing New Patriotic Party in the Garu Constituency of the upper east region, Osman Musah dropped jaws on Friday afternoon when he knelt down in tears to beg for unity and forgiveness among party faithful going into election 2020.
The spectacle which occurred at an inauguration of a constituency campaign team, saw the candidate drop on his knees at the climax of his speech, with a sorrowful plea that was met with a drop of heads among regional and local executives seated at the high table.
“I take God almighty to beg all here to please forgive me, if I have wronged anyone during the primaries. Let us please come together to help my campaign“, he said in the Kussal dialect as his body shivered amid efforts to hold back his tears.
He had barely stayed a minute on the floor when some party members rushed towards him, held him up with shouts of disapproval as if he had just committed an abomination in a Nigerian movie.
The incident comes amid suspicions that the NPP Members in the constituency failed to mend their cracks after its Parliamentary Primary which was held last year, and that they emerged from it sharply divided into relentlessly unforgiving factions.
It would be recalled that the former ActionAid Officer, beat competition from District Chief Executive, Emmanuel Asore Avoka to win the candidature slot. However, his inability to regroup members after contest coupled with reported misunderstandings between the constituency Chairman and the DCE for the area has further deepened the cracks.
Grapevine information also reaching Dreamzfmonline suggest that former Upper East Regional Minister and twice failed parliamentary hopeful of the NPP for the constituency, Alhassan Samari and his faction have also been wronged by the parliamentary candidate, creating further problems that resulted in his absence at the inauguration.
Speaking in an interview shortly after the inauguration, Mr. Osman Musah explained that his act at the podium was spontaneous and was geared towards addressing the challenge of pains and disgruntlement that arises after every primaries in the constituency.
“It was spontaneous. It just occurred to me as I delivered the speech, and forgive me that I got emotional. I couldn’t control the passion with which I was delivering the earnest speech. We need to identify our challenge. One of the major challenges that have bedeviled the Garu constituency has been primaries and our inability to let go the issues with the primaries and forge ahead. This time around, having been given the mantle of leadership, I thought it was an opportune time to whip our constituency and polling station executives with the charge of identifying our major challenge which is the primaries,” he said.
He expressed confidence that the move was successful in drawing the attention of all present at the event to that challenge and is however hopeful the short-lived moment will change a lot for his campaign moving forward.
On his part, District Chief Executive for Garu, Emmanuel Asore pledged to support the campaign with both resources and ideas to ensure the elephant family annexes the seat come December 7.
Meanwhile the inauguration was superintended by the Upper East Regional Chairman, Anthony Anamoo and representatives from the NPP Regional campaign team.
Mr. Anamoo while admonishing them to eschew the internal wrangling said the party after tireless efforts to resolve the matters of the Garu constituency seem to have failed and that it will not over stress the limited time on one disunited constituency to the detriment of the other fourteen constituencies.
Thirty five members were sworn in as a campaign team members to plan and plot for a historic victory in the constituency currently held by the National Democratic Congress’ Albert Akuka Alalzuuga.
They include an IT expert, a Lawyer, Media practitioner, constituency and polling station executives among others.
