President Nana Akufo-Addo has served notice he will be the first Ghanaian with his wife, the first lady, to take the Covid-19 vaccine which arrived in the country few days ago.

On Monday March 1, 2021, The President, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and his Vice, Dr. Mahammudu Bawumia will be the first to publicly receive shots of the new COVID-19 vaccines which arrived in Ghana last Wednesday.

They will take the vaccine together with their wives, Rebecca Akufo-Addo and Samira Bawumia respectively. This will go a long way to boost public confidence in the safety and efficacy of the AstraZeneca vaccine that has been approved for use and will help reduce the spread of the virus in Ghana.

President Akufo made this known during his 24th COVID-19 address to Ghanaians on Sunday evening.

He added that, the vaccination for the two leaders will take place at two separate health facilities for both families.

“As your President, I want to assure you that the vaccine is safe. That is why tomorrow, on Monday, 1st March, ahead of the commencement of the vaccination programme on Tuesday, 2nd March, my wife the First Lady, the Vice President, his wife the Second Lady, and I will take the vaccine publicly at two health facilities in Accra,” the President added.

This comes at the back of mixed reactions from Ghanaians as some are hesitant in taking the vaccine.
